Heathfield – St George Broad Oak

A cruciform building with steep shingled roofs designed by W S Newman (BE(E) p474) and built in 1959.  The walls are boarded inside and out (the boards inside are wider) and the roof-trusses rise from floor-level, initially curved in form.  The side-windows, which are directly under the eaves, contain yellowish glass and so does the lozenge-shaped west window.  There is a small belfry in the centre of the roof.
